Proofreader does not work. SIerra/Pages '09 v4.3

I just updated my iMac (mid 2011) to SIerra, and updated my iWork '09 Suite (via the App Store). Now Proofreader does not work, although "Check Spelling as you Type" does. When I click on Proofreader... I just get an empty Proofreader window and a ping. I have the language set in System Prefs to the same language in the document (UK English). I have opened several other documents, same result. Any suggestions? Thank you.

I have Pages '09 v4.3 running on macOS Sierra 10.12.5. Same result as you with U.S. English. No proofreading functionality at all. Considering the Pages '09 v4.3 application has spanned nine operating systems and eight years, that is remarkable, and a vestige of the old Apple.

Since the product was retired nearly four years ago, Apple is not testing it with future releases of macOS, and not fixing what is broken. If you rely on proof reading, then you may have to acquire a third-party proof reading tool, or a non-Apple word processing solution with strong proof reading functionality.
