Viewing new Netflix app on iPad

I just downloaded the new Netflix app on my iPad, and cannot view anything except in "portrait" mode, which is pretty much useless for a movie. The screen won't "rotate" to landscape as usual when I turn the iPad. I tend to keep the iPad on my keyboard (horizontally oriented) and plugged in. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Elyartist

Just to clarify, this App: DVD Netflix on the App Store, did not rotate and was an iPhone only app. Since I posted stating that back in January, it has been updated and is now optimized for iPad and it rotates there as well. Though it only lets you order DVDs and blu-rays for delivery to your home.

This App: Netflix on the App Store which is the regular Netflix App, has always rotated on the iPad.

That's not really correct.

Netflix on iPad is able to rotate just fine to landscape.

Netflix on an iPhone is restricted to Portrait only however. Though watching something full screen will rotate it to Landscape.

If Rotation is not locked at the system level as explained above, then you may have downloaded the iPhone version by mistake, though I do not see any way to do that.

Can you take a screenshot of the Netflix screen and post it here so we may confirm?

Hi. Two thoughts. First, is it possible you installed an iPhone version of the app? You control the app store search by selecting iPad only. Second, try a restart, like this

1. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.

2. Drag the slider to turn your device completely off.

3. After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.

Does rotation still work normally on the Home screen and in other apps? Some iPad Air 2 uses have reported random rotation lock since iOS 10.1.1.

I'm not sure whether I installed the iPhone version or the iPad version. I guess I'd have to uninstall it and retry to be able to figure that out. But in the meantime, I've done some other searching on this forum and I am not the only person with this particular issue. I called Netflix and was told that the app itself is only portrait oriented, but when I select a movie, the app will reorient to landscape mode. This seems like an app mistake to me, and I'm hoping that all the other complaints will result in a "fix." Meanwhile, I may try isolating whether the app itself is for iPad or iPhone. Thanks! I take your word for it. Since I already have the app, I can't determine if there are separate versions of the app or if the app just behaves differently on each device per the app thinning scenario. When I go to the App Store and select the iPhone version only, it shows me the same thing as when I select the iPad version only.

In any event, it should work in landscape mode.
