clear cache on Mac
Should I periodically clear the cache on my MacBook Pro? Not referring to Safari cache, rather in finder library.

Caches should not be deleted under normal circumstances on a Mac, clearing caches does nothing to the system performance. The Mac OS performs all the system management functions required.
However, if there are specific problems with the Mac, and only if there are problems, then it may be one of the repair tasks that might help.
Thanks to you and Allen for your responses. My mac was running slow. I ran disk utility in Recovery Mode which repaired some corrupt files. Probably should have stopped at that!
As for the cache, I went to ~/Library/cache which showed the folder "cache" in which there were a few dozen sub folders. I removed the sub folders. Should I pull them back?
Should I pull them back?
Yes, restore all deleted folders.

Download and install Etrecheck, full details what it does is on the website.
Post the results here and we can probably tell you whats causing the slowdown.
For a start, uninstall properly any antivirus or "cleaning applications" if you have them and test performance again.
I posted it, did you see it? Chatted with Apple Support and they said removing the system cache subfolders was not a problem. Sounds like and looks like the system rebuilt them anyway. Make sense? Thanks for your help. Appreciate the program you wrote and happy to donate.

Thanks Gary. Oops, well I removed the folders under the cache folder in library. Will that be a problem?
Removing cache files is one thing, removing system folders is very bad news.
If they are still in the Trash folder, right click and select: Put Back

Uninstall the Avast Online Security which is an extension to Safari. It is a worthless scam on the Mac. It offers no additional protection.
Roger that. Everything else good then?
Strange, I can't find Avast in Safari extensions. I see it on your report though. How do I find it to remove?
