I currently have iOS 10.2 and am trying to assign profile pictures to my contact list and text lists. I was able to do it in a previous iOS version, I'm not sure if it is just no longer available or am I doing something wrong.

The pictures have been in contacts, i would like to see them come up when I am in contact list view and text list view.

For the phone contacts I don't ever remember seeing that option. It must have been removed from my guess. It could always come back. I don't have that option either.

Now for messages are you talking about inside the messages app? If so you need to have "show contact photos" enabled in settings > messages.

Have you tried:
1) Open the Phone App
2) Select a Contact
3) Select Edit (Top Right)
4) Select Add Photo (Top Left Below "Cancel")
5) Chose a Photo
6) Move and Scale it to your liking
7) Select Choose
8) Press Done
Thanks for the reply, perhaps my question was not worded properly. I'm able to assign pictures to my contacts without any issues, the problem is that when viewing the contact list the pictures are no longer with the contact. The same when viewing the text list.

That is exactly what I need to do except that option is not available on my phone. My son's phone has that exact option and he has iOS 10, I have 10.2 and i'm thinking that perhaps that option was taken away for some reason.
What i mean by contact list is when you're searching through your contacts.

As for messages double check that "show contact photos" are enabled.

You are exactly correct. I still have the profile picture under favorites but I used to have them under the regular contact list as well as the list of text recipients. as I mentioned in my previous post my son's phone has an older iOS and he has the option to show the pictures where i do not.

Contact profile pics are still available in iOS 10.2! What's going on? Any errors etc?
You add photos to contacts in the Contacts app. Select the contact, tap on Edit, then tap on the area where the photo would be and tap on that to add the photo.
No errors to my knowledge, the phone is new.
For messages go to:
Settings > Messages and make sure "show contact photos are on.
What do you mean by contact list?
Okay for the contacts.
If you are under the "contacts" tab the profile pictures won't show.
They do show if you are in the "Favorites" tab.
I don't believe this feature was taken away either.
