View two sheets simultaneously

I created two sheets in a single Numbers doc. Now I need to look at both sheets simultaneously. Can I open two sheets in the same doc side-by side? Alternately, can I split them into separate document other than by duplicating the entire existing document?

Obviously in the time it takes to ask this I could have duplicated the doc and more. But this will come up again.

Another thing — basically a word of warning p.s. I first wrote this question before signing in. Signing in deleted all that I had written. I doubt Apple cares, but it was vexing.

Thanks GB

Hi Glen,

Yes, it is vexing. These forums sometimes allow you to compose a post without telling you that the automatic time-out has logged you out.

My workflow is command r (reload or refresh page) to see if I am still logged in, and to see if another reply has been posted before my reply.

  • Compose my post;
  • command a (Select All);
  • command c (Copy);
  • command s (Save = post my reply);

If I get the red banner "You are not allowed" I have my reply on the Clipboard and I can login and Paste.

Or,

  • Compose my post in another app (Pages, TextEdit or whatever);
  • Save;
  • command a (Select All);
  • command c (Copy);
  • return to Apple Support Communities and command r to check;
  • If all is good, Paste my reply;
  • If my post fails, I have a saved copy in that other app.

Regards,

Ian.

Thank you Wayne

After posting my question I said heck with elegant and just duplicated the document. I could delete sheet 1 from one and sheet 2 from the other and call it perfect, or just not care. I needed to compare the different information I had on each sheet. I already knew that I could see and compare what I needed in less time that it would take to write some formula. But I though that there ought to be a simple way to look at two different sheets in the same spreadsheet at the same time and spent a bunch of time in this pursuit instead of just duplicating the docs in the first place.

Thanks for your help. If there is something, look forward to hearing about it. In the mean time, many thanks. GB

Wayne,

Thanks, I might. I've a small business and am not a big SS user. I'm not sure the point of multiple pages in one SS doc anyway. I experiment a bit but am not working alongside a bunch of other SS users. When I write a SS it usually operates independently -- income and taxes for the year, or names and addresses, and maybe next year a new doc. A SS simplifies things except when it doesn't. Glen

"Danger, Will Robinson! Working on duplicates..."

One possible workaround there:

Open the duplicate, go the the area you want to look at, select the whole table, apply a colour fill to the cells.

Then remember to edit only the original, which still shows the original fill colours used.

OR

Open the duplicate. Select and Lock the table you will be viewing. This prevents editing the copy, prompting you to do all editing on the original.
