What do you mean by widget settings?
You can set up widgets on the iPhone lock screen, and spotlight search screen if that is what you mean.

Dear Frankie7 & community; I have a very similar question - and let me illustrate with an example. My Mail widget gives me the names of a few contacts, a few of them with their profile images. A handful. But these are contacts with whom I have not communicated for a long time. One or two, yes - but the list has no discernible patter. Why these addressees are the ones selected to show up in the widget is beyond me. Somewhere there should be a setting to e.g. select those contacts with whom I have corresponded frequently in recent weeks.
So: why these contacts and not someone else? What drives the selection of 5-7-9 people?
