Yes, it could. If your device has no GPS (only iPhones have it), or there's no signal, Location services rely on the device IP address and magic to estimate your location. Obviously, this is only an estimate, and can be wrong.

You wonder why Apple show the location if it is so unreliable. The first time I logged in to iCloud via my PC after setting up 2FA, I thought someone was hacking into my Apple ID from 300 miles away. I disallowed the request and realized it was actually me when my PC rejected the login. Not a helpful feature.

Hi. The location is estimated from your internet IP address. This can be misleading if you're on a corporate network, VPN, or other similar system. It could happen on a regular ISP connection if they've reassigned some of their equipment.

Hi tincanjoey. I suspect that the authentication process just uses the (router) IP address to guess the location. Find My Phone may be able to query the Location services on the device. One should not take these things too seriously.

Could it be that your network traffic is routed via a server that is registered in Dearborn, Michigan? Or it could be that Apple are relying on outdated IP location information. Are you connected to Wi-Fi, or do you have a cellular iPad model and if so does it help to change connection methods?

Yes. Try rebooting the device. Check to see if location services are enabled under Settings > Privacy > Location Services. Check that both Pokémon Go and Maps have access to the service and then check that your location shows correctly in Apple's Maps app.

The same exact thing just happened to us. We're in Austin, and recently signed up for two-factor authentication.

Last night I temporarily signed into one Apple ID on our iPad to download an app, and when I signed back into the other, my significant other received an iPhone message saying someone was trying to sign into the iPad in Dearborn, Mich.

We were using Wi-Fi through Google Fiber. What about you,

None of this has worked for me so far. Changed password. Signed in and out of iCloud so maybe it will update eventually. Keeps telling me I'm in Philadelphia, but I'm in Virginia? No vpn. I do have Adblock plus and Adguard. Turning them off as well now. Is there another way to block people invading privacy other then changing passwords? Thank you

Same here. Every time I enter in an Apple ID on any of our devices I the two factor authentication shows the device in Michigan. Nothing has helped to resolve this.

On the other hand if I look at any of my device location using "Find my Iphone". The map locations for my devices are all correct.

Me thinks this is a two factor authentication screw up.

Well. I don't take it too seriously now, but initially I ended changing my passwords because it appeared someone was trying to log on with my Apple ID.

As far as my router IP address. Never had this problem until two factor authentication.
