Typing bubbles in imessage look different

Hello,

A bubble that is a pencil means the other person is writing a handwritten message. Each bubble means something different.

To make a handwritten message on your iPhone, turn it sideways. If you have an iPad, tap on the keyboard.

This is a new feature in iOS 10.

The pencil is for handwritten messages.

The heart with two fingers is digital Touch.

I have the same question with the typing indicator but don't see anywhere in the information you sent as to why the indicator looks different. Mine also looked like three dots that were pencil drawn

It's quite possible it was simply a UI change with the most recent version of iOS. It may not mean anything.
