Canon MX452 will not find scanner after Sierra 10.12.2 update

Canon MX452 Multifunction printer will print OK but MAC cannot find scanner after the 10.12.2 update. After working with Canon online tech support, reloaded drivers, rebooted, and they still cannot get the scanner to be recognized. HELP!

Canon regularly refreshes their list of printers, but scanners rarely require updating. You shouldn't require separate drivers.

The files you're looking for are located in your (HD)/Library/Image Capture/ - and then either Devices or TWAIN Data Sources. The folder should look something like this:

User uploaded file

From here, it's hit and miss, but some users have had luck putting the Devices in the Trash (but don't delete them!), then put them back in their folder after rebooting.

Before going that far, go to System Preferences/Printer & Scanners, and see if your panel looks like this:

User uploaded file

If the scanner is missing, that's the source of the problem.

There are two scanner drivers available for this model - the TWAIN driver that is used with Canon applications like IJ Scan Utility and the ICA driver that is used with Apple applications such as Image Capture.

If you open Image Capture, located under Applications, a networked MX452 should appear under the Shared heading. Do you see it? If you do and select it, then are you able to scan using this application?
