IPOD NANO 30GB is Hosed

Hi, really need some assistance for non technical person.

Symptoms:

1. IPOD battery ran out
2. Logged into ITUNES
3. Updated ITUNES software to download video
4. Have the Red 0 with line through it
5. My computer does not show IPOD nor does ITUNES
6. Can not safely "remove device"
7. Can not turn off IPOD
8. Can not reset IPOD

I'm all tied up. Any words of wisdom is greatly appreciated.
