Text insertion cursor disappears

When editing a document on Pages, both when typing and when I stop typing, often the text insertion cursor disappears! It's very annoying and I cannot write a document correctly because I continuously have to click on the page to go back to "edit mode"! What can I do?

Applications on OS X/macOS expect keyboard focus, which is obtained by clicking on the application, or in the case of Pages, its document body, as well. Click on anything that is not Pages itself, and you lose both keyboard focus, pointer focus, and the blinking insertion beam. There is no user setting to circumvent this standard Mac usability behavior, and it holds true for Pages '09 v4.3, Pages v5.6.2, and Pages v6.0.5 when tested on OS X El Capitan or macOS Sierra.

I have not witnessed other circumstances where the insertion beam randomly disappears, or vanishes over time.

I suggest the website audio is cutting into the focus on your foremost open App.

Some Audio is cut into chunks for protected streaming which entails the computer switching between Apps to pick up the next piece. Usually that happens too fast for you to see, but if you do not have enough RAM available/enough swap space on your hard drive/enough processing cores something gets interrupted when your browser whatever refreshes.

Apparently your typing. Especially as Pages 5 and 6 are so inefficiently written.
