Question

MacOS screen turns black and white upon logging into main user account.

I have a MacBook Air 13" running MacOS Sierra 10.12.2. Everything was normal until today, as whenever I start my computer up, everything seems fine. But when I enter the password to my main user account, as it loads, the screen suddenly turns black and white. This must be a software issue, as when I log into the Guest user account, everything is fine- there’s colour. I've tried updating to the latest version, from MacOS 10.12.1 to 10.12.2, and the issue still occurs.

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Let's try this. Please go to System Preferences, select Accessibility, then click on Display on the left. Let's see if "Use grayscale" is checked or unchecked.

I understand your MacBook Air is switching to black and white when you log in to your user account, and I'm happy to help. To help isolate this issue further, please start the Mac in safe mode to see if you still have this issue with the Mac in safe mode. Here are instructions:

Try safe mode if your Mac doesn‘t finish starting up

Hi Becky,

I booted my MacBook Air into safe mode and the issue still occurs- the login screen is fine, but once I login to the one specific user account, the screen immediately turns black and white. I tried logging into another user account in safe mode, and everything is fine there.
