Changing sims from iPhone 6 to 7

I am upgrading from an iPhone 6 to an IPhone 7 Plus. Other family members are upgrading from iPhone 6 to iPhone 7. I have been told the sim cards are the same size and you just insert your existing iPhone 6 sim card into the new iPhone 7. Is this correct?

Or should I connect the new iPhones 7 to my laptop on which I have backed up everybody's phone data separately and just restore data on the new phones that have new sims?

iPhone 7, iOS 10.2

If those phones have never been set up, insert the SIM, connect to iTunes and let iTunes do that for you, choose the latest backup of the previous owner for each device.

iTunes will install the latest firmware, including any carrier updates, and you will be sure that no other user data is on the device and all settings, account info, etc. have been transferred for each owner.
