cannot delete old billing address from Apple Pay

I cannot delete my old billing address from Apple Pay. When I click on the ℹ information icon I see two billing addresses (one of them is my old address). I then click on "edit" and tap the ➖ remove icon and it removes. I then select the correct one ✅. When I go back to the previous screen the old address is still there and selected.

What am I doing wrong?

I cannot use Apple Pay as the address is not current.

Thanks,

Jon

None of what was posted will fix this. For many of us, and it will be quickly obvious if you are one, the original address associated with a credit/debit card in iCloud or Apple Pay will be retained forever in iCloud. You can wipe your device, get a new one, set it up as new, etc., as soon as you log into your iCloud account that address will be back. I’ve done all of those as have many others, it will always come back. Either this doesn’t affect enough users to track this down or they are at a loss to figure it out.

Two options do work but both are somewhat tedious. For me the problem was only with one bank’s debit/credit card. I chose to get my bank to issue me a new card with a new account number to replace the old one. I went into the bank to make the request and the associate who was helping me took my phone and said “you can change the address in settings” and she proceeded to do so. And the address was changed. So she thought that I was good. I said just wait a minute and then I restarted my phone and the old address was back. She processed the request for the new card without further comment.

Since getting the new new card and deleting the previous one I’ve had no problems. When you go to add the card you will be shown the previous ones to select, just skip those. As you enter or scan the new one your address will be pulled from your contact card. Make certain that it only has the address you want used. And make certain that is the address that the bank has for you because that address is part of the verification process for Apple Pay with your bank. The correct address has remained now through multiple device restarts and multiple OSes. I consider myself cured. Fortunately for me this card was only listed as payment on one or two merchant’s sites so I was able to quickly make the changes.

The other option which I would have found to be extremely onerous is to create a new iCloud/Apple ID account and make that your primary on your Apple Pay devices. There would be a cascade of issues triggered by that so I opted for the new card. For me it was quite simple. Although I‘m assuming that if I move once again that I will have to do this once more. But I’m not going anywhere for a long time. But again for some reason the first address you associate with a card seems to be retained somewhere in iCloud forever. That is what they need to track down.

Hi w1jp,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it seems like you are not able to change the address for a card you are using with Apple Pay. One thing you can do is to remove the card itself and then readd it to Apple Pay. I would recommend you read this article and use it to help troubleshoot the issue.

To remove a card that you use on your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay, tap the card that you want to remove, then tap Remove Card.

Manage the cards that you use with Apple Pay

  1. Go to Wallet and tap Add Credit or Debit Card.
  2. Follow the steps to add a new card. If you're asked to add the card that you use with iTunes, just enter its security code.
  3. Tap Next. Your bank or card issuer will verify your information and decide if you can add your card to Apple Pay.

Set up Apple Pay on your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, or Mac
Cheers.

The problem that he and both have we have multiple old billing addresses. It defaults to my old billing address. How can I remove these old addresses. They look like old ship to addresses. There is no way to delete them. If you remove the card and add it back they come back too. I have updated contact and shipping with the correct new address but under the billing address drop down list are several old addresses for me (in Jon's case it's only one). How do we delete these?

I have a connected issue. I solved the first part that you described by checking all addresses in:

  • Apple ID online
  • Apple Contact set up "me" on mac
  • AppleStore App
  • iTunes
  • re-assigned billing address to all cards on iPhone wallet

But still, when I use Apple Pay online on a website, my old addresses are set as default show in list and I have to manually select the right one each time. I cleared my Safari cache, cookies, history etc but still, the list with the old addresses is there. Where do I need to go and what do I have to do to remove them? The only option I have is to ADD a new address to that list, but not the remove one.

Anyone with any ideas?
