Cannot Connect to Time Capsule

Hi,

I have been using a 2TB Time Capsule for many years without any issues. About a week ago, I received a notification that Time Capsule hadn't backed up in 10 days. When I went to manually start a back up I received this message: "There was a problem connecting to the server "..." Check the server name or IP address, and then try again. If you continue to have problems, contact your system administrator. "

Like others, my internet is not effected and I can access previous Time Machine backups without problem. Also, I have another Mac that backs up to this disk and there is no problem there. I am running MacOS Sierra 10.12.2.

I've read every post here I can find and nothing seems to solve my issue. Here are some of the things I've tried with no success:

  • Unplugging the TC and restarting
  • Restarting my Mac
  • Updating to firmware 7.6.8 (the issue started on 7.6.7)
  • Resetting the TC by holding down the inset button on the back of the unit
  • Deleting all keychain references and inputting fresh passwords
  • I even took the extreme step of erasing the disk hoping that would solve the problem but I still can't connect to it to start a fresh back up

Let me know if you have any ideas. I'm open to any suggestions here!

Thanks

If you can connect directly to the TC by ethernet then do so..

I am unclear if you can see the TC in your airport utility?? If it has completely disappeared we can locate it again using manual configuration.

Please make sure in your network configuration, wireless and ethernet now.. that IPv6 is set to link-local only.. unless you are actually on IPv6 ISP.

Example of wireless.. go to advanced TCP/IP settings, and make sure the IPv6 is set as shown.. Auto is useless.. it has been issue since Mavericks and is still an issue.. auto just does not seem to ever get it right.

If the TC now shows in your airport utility.. you can try mounting it again.

If the TC fails to show in Airport utility.. connect to it manually..

Change the airport utility over to Ethernet.. this is so utterly stupid.. any network should be the same.. but apple insist on manually setting wireless or ethernet.. this is in the most obvious place you could imagine.. (note heavy sarcasm) Other WiFi Devices (like ethernet is now a sub-category of wifi)..

Now with actual reliable ethernet connection.. you can type in the IP of the TC.

Open Configure Other as shown.. simply type in the IP and password.. voila.. TC.

If you still have problems.. show me the setup of the TC from a Mac that is working. I need screenshots of its Internet, and Network tabs in particular.

I can't mount the disk in the Finder using the Go, Connect to Server option. I get a message saying TC can't be found.

I don't have any AV software or adware on my computer. I haven't made any firewall changes but I'm open to ideas if you have thoughts on settings there?

Also, I tried connecting directly today via ethernet and the disk can't be found via that method either. The strange thing is that my other Mac continues to back up to this disk with no issues. That computer is running the last version of El Capitan however.
