macOS Sierra version 12.2.04: "The installer payload failed signature check"

Hello.

I have a MacBook Pro mid-2012.

Specs

[processor] 2,5 GHz Intel Core i5,

[memory] 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3,

[storage] 500 GB SATA Disk.

Last weekend all of a sudden the start-up disk didn't get recognised any longer. I went to recovery mode by pressing CMD + R during booting up and downloaded and installed macOS Sierra on an external harddrive. All well and fine, and initially I though to migrate my current settings, applications, documents and everything, but after seeing that would take up 100~ hours, I decided against it and went for a clean install.

I wiped my internal HDD and reformatted it as MacOS Extended Journaled.

Now, I can boot from my external harddrive, and I downloaded macOS Sierra 12.2.04 from the App Store, but everytime I try to install it, it near-finishes and says: "The installer payload failed signature check"

It is not an issue with date/time, as that's all current, I even did the terminal command to get the current European time; sudo ntpdate -u time.euro.apple.com.

I've tried to re-install it about three times... anyone got any other tips and/or suggestions for me to try? Thanks!

NOTE: I originally posted this in the MacBook community, but that was before I saw this thing for Operating System/Software!

Hey!

Thanks for your response, that are the exact steps I took. And that's probably also the version I have. I copied what's being listed as version in the info on that screenshot!

User uploaded file

I tried to install Sierra to my MacIntosh HD via:

- Recovery mode;

- Booting from my External harddrive and then just installing it, and instead of selecting that startup disk, select Macintosh HD;

- Creating the Install macOS Sierra bootable partition on my external drive and when starting up hitting the Alt key to install it.

As you can see I'm right now just giving it a shot with downloading El Capitan, and Yosemite. At least one should work, right! My wifi is crappy, but still... I've managed to do all the updates before too (: I don't really wanna download Sierra all over again, because maybe its just an issue with Sierra.

There is no macOS version 12.2.04. The current version of Sierra is 10.12.2. Be sure you have downloaded a file named, Install macOS Sierra, that is around 5GBs in size. To install from scratch you would do the following:

Install El Capitan or Sierra from Scratch

Backup if possible before continuing.

  1. Restart the computer. Immediately after the chime hold down the CommandandRkeys until the Apple logo appears. When the Utility Menu appears:
  2. Select Disk Utility from the Utility Menu and click on Continue button.
  3. When Disk Utility loads select the volume (indented entry, usually Macintosh HD) from the Device list.
  4. Click on the Erase icon in Disk Utility's main window. A panel will drop down.
  5. Set the Format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)
  6. Click on the Apply button, then wait for the Done button to activate and click on it.
  7. Quit Disk Utility and return to the Utility Menu.
  8. Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.

OK, that was the version of the installer, but not of OS X. Your model should run Sierra without any issues, so not sure why there is a problem. BTW, be sure to save a copy of the installer in your Downloads folder. The installer is programmed to erase itself after installation. Same with El Capitan. Eventually, you can use them to make bootable USB flash drive installers.

The signature error either means there was an error on your HDD during download or you have a glitch during download, and the resulting file is bad.

Try again, but this time at the point where you are supposed to select a target disk, click on the link to show all disks, select the one you erased and run the installer. See what happens.
