CarPlay problems in a 2017 Hyundai Elantra with Messages

I have a 2017 Hyundai Elantra with CarPlay. When I first got the car in March 2016, my iPhone 6s Plus was on IOS 9 and everything worked perfectly. Since upgrading to IOS 10 in September, I have been experiencing problems mostly with messages. I will get a notification that I have a new iMessage and will either tap the notification, or ask Siri to read me my new messages. Siri will respond, "You have a message from Brian, Brian said...," except 9 out of 10 times she will not read to me what the person said. But, then the screen will change for me to send a reply. So, I have to back out of it and say, "Read my last message from Brian." When I do that she will tell me what that person said to me.

The issue is getting annoying and is only present when my phone is connected to my car via CarPlay. I do not have the problem at all when I ask Siri the same questions only through the phone. I have also updated my phone to the iPhone 7 Plus and am currently running IOS 10.2, and still having the same issue. Brought my car into the dealership today in hopes that there would be a software update for my car that would correct the problem, but they tell me that I am up to date.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, were you able to fix it? Or is this something that I am going to have to wait for Apple to acknowledge and eventually include it in an IOS software update?

Thank you in advance for any and all help.

I have found a temporary fix until Apple provides us with a much needed update. Ok! To get my carplay to read my text back to me I can either turn my phone to vibrate or I can use the command "read ____ (person's name) last text message. Since my phone doesn't stay on vibrate and when I get in my car sometimes I forget using read last text command works 100%. I didn't even know this was a command and it works great. As far as our maps not opening in night mode I haven't found a fix for that yet but I'll keep you updated. Hopefully Apple creates an update very soon. I've contacted Hyundai and Apple explaining the need for an update. If you could also maybe we could get this much needed update so we can use the features in our car

I'm having the same exact issue. This is one of the key reasons I bought this car was for this feature since I have an hour and a half commute to work one way. It's really frustrating!! I wish they would get this fixed ASAP. I'm going to contact Hyundai and Apple support today. Hate that none of us can get this working, but glad to know it's not just my car. My daughter just bought a brand new 2017 Toyota and she has no problems at all. The other issues I have that make me angry are I use Amazon Music for all my music and when I hit play my car will pull up iTunes and just grab whatever and start playing it. I haven't used iTunes in about 5 years! It does this when trying to play a podcast too. The car will also turn on the radio as soon as I disconnect my phone. I don't listen to the radio very often and this is annoying as well, because it will start blasting the radio when I'm trying to get out of the car.

I want to bump this thread, because it’s so hard to get info on this issue. It’s now December 2017 and the readout issue still exists. There is also a bug where CarPlay doesn’t display the album art after the first track finishes. It may just be with Spotify. I’ve read other places that it’s an issue with Hyundai. It may not be a software issue. It may be a hardware issue. Hyundai may have cut corners on the USB port. They are also not very helpful. At least the maps night mode thing is gone.

I have the EXACT same issue with the EXACT same car. My car plays my messages 1 out of 5 times. I took it to the dealership today and they were no help and said no one else has had this problem to my salesman knowledge. Have you been able to find a fix to this issue? Has Apple responded to your concerns? I really want this function to work because it's extremely frustrating. I have this car that I am really enjoying and one of the key selling features for me doesn't work
