airpods pairing code?

I'm trying to pair my new Airpods with my office phone (Siemens Gigaset, S850H) to use them as a headset. The Phone supports bluetooth and is able to successfully detect the Airpods but asks for a pairing code.

I have tried 000, 0000, 111 and 1111 so far, all without luck. Can anybody help?

I had the same issue while pairing my new AirPods with my PC Laptop, I would be prompted for a 4-digit passcode.

I tried everything and even contacted Apple Support to no avail. Through this endeavour, I tried 000, 0000, 1234, etc

After reading a couple forums and doing some troubleshooting this is what I did/what fixed it:

The laptop I was connecting to is a Lenovo Yoga 910
I ensured my Bluetooth Device Drivers were update-to-date
I ensured I had Bluetooth 4.0 (Microsoft Bluetooth LE Enumerator, Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4 Bluetooth 4.1)
I then tried connecting to another laptop to see if it was isolated, it was, great
I reset my new AirPods (held the back button for 15 secs until it goes amber)
I then restarted my Lenovo
Turned off and then back on Bluetooth
Then commenced starting from scratch to reconnect AirPods as per normal.
It worked, no passcode required and connected straight away

Yes, you are probably right. My Siemens device seems to have bluetooth 2.0 on board so it is probably an incompatibility issue.

I was hoping there was some sort of a fallback solution but I will just have to get an iPhone and use that for work :-D

From what I can tell, Apple AirPods use Bluetooth Smart, part of Bluetooth 4.0 BLE, to pair with devices. Bluetooth Smart supports pairing without a passcode.

AirPod Compatibility shows that it requires an iPhone 5 and later, iPad mini 2 and later, or iPad Air and later. All these devices have Bluetooth 4.0. Granted some other devices such as the iPhone 4S have Bluetooth 4.0 but are not listed as compatible.

I tried looking up details about your handset, but there wasn't much regarding what version of bluetooth is supported:

If I had to guess, I'd say the Siemens device does not meet the Bluetooth 4.0 requirement. Just to be clear, I could be correct, only half way correct, or completely wrong.
