iPhone 7 plus charging issue

So, I've used the same exact charger and cord to charge my last few phones. Once in a while I have a problem where my phone stops charging. This happens about once or twice a week.

For example, last night about 10:30 my phone as at 16% battery. I plugged it in and it started charging. I went to sleep. I woke up this morning (about 4:45), pulled my phone off the charger and went about my morning. Now here we are at 5:20 and I notice my battery is at 29%. It's obvious that it charged some, but not all the way and NOBODY touched it. It was still plugged in when I woke up this morning.

Anybody got any ideas what's going on?

I understand that you are having problems charging your iPhone 7 Plus. I'd like to help out with this. Take a look at the following information and use these steps to troubleshoot the issue:

If your device won’t charge or charges slowly

If you have very low battery and plug into power, a black screen or a black screen with a red battery might appear for a few minutes. Follow these steps and try again after each:

Check your charging cable and USB adapter for signs of damage,* like breakage or bent prongs. Don't use damaged accessories.

Use a wall power outlet and check for firm connections between your charging cable, USB wall adapter, and wall outlet, or try a different outlet.

Remove any debris from the charging port on the bottom of your device, then firmly plug your charging cable into your device. If the charging port is damaged, your device probably needs service.

Let your device charge for a half hour (If your device is unresponsive afterward, learn what to do).

Force restart your device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo. Then let your device charge for another half hour.

If your device still won’t power on or charge, take your device, charging cable, and charging adapter to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider for evaluation. You can also contact Apple Support.

*If you're unsure about whether an accessory is damaged, take it to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider for evaluation, or contact Apple Support.

My iPhone 7 Plus is having a problem with heating up while it is charging, I’ll plug it in to the charger that came with the phone and ill come back about a half an hour later and my phone will be super hot right where the battery sits, and the cable and wall adapter will be super hot as well. Is there something I could be doing wrong that I could fix or is it something I need to bring in to the apple store to fix?
