message disappears when reading w Apple Mail

when reading a message in apple mail suddenly it goes blank and says No Message Selected. Is this happening to anyone else? Just started in the last 2 weeks. I use Safari on my MacBook Pro running El Capitan 10.11.6

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2), Numbers 3.2

I've seen this happen when a user is accessing the same mail account with multiple devices. For example, if you have an iPhone and an iPad, and the email settings are identical, it's common for a user to see emails "vanish" as previously-accessed messages are deleted automatically.

Also, if email setup is incorrect, disappearing emails are very possible. If you're supposed to be set up to use Yahoo, and you're using Microsoft instead, messages could very well disappear.

To get these "lost" emails, you can use your ISP's webmail interface.

The email itself is still there (doesn’t disappear) and I can click on the subject again and it can be read. Just the window I am reading it in apple mail blanks. I don’t double click to open the message, I am just reading it in the viewing window of Apple mail. The message is still in my in box and I can single click on the subject line and see it again in the viewing window underneath all of the displayed message lines above the viewing window.

Here is a screen shot of my Apple Mail screen from the junk folder.

Note that the message is highlighted above the line (I didn’t double click on it) so I can read it in the viewer below the line without opening it. Sometimes when scrolling down through the message in the lower panel to read it, the lower panel suddenly goes blank and says No Message Selected, and the highlighting of the brief message above the line is no longer highlighted, but still there. I can single click on it and once again read the message below the line. This is intermittent and does not seem to depend on the size of the message. Does this make it clearer what is happening?
