hyperlinks not working when embedding pdf in mac mail

I'm having a problem with sending a pdf via mail and having the hyperlinks not work when the pdf is embedded in an email. They work when the pdf is opened in preview but not when it is opened as an email. One link is an email address and the other is a URL.

Using: Pages 5.6.1

Late 2013 iMac 27" i5

macOS Sierra 10.12.2

I've tried "sharing" from the pages app directly to mail, exporting the pdf and dragging and dropping to email (doesn't embed), I've tried opening the pdf in a webpage then sharing webpage as email. Can't think of any other way to try to get these links to work.

Also searched this forum and tried previous suggestions from 2012 without luck.

Any help or suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

iMac, macOS Sierra (10.12.2)

pdfs are not "embedded" in Mail they are attachments that preview inside Mail.

They then open inside Preview when you double click them to open them.

It sounds like you may need to create html/xtml email if you want links for recipients to click on directly, and those open in whatever browser you have chosen, not directly either.

In both cases something else is having to open, with html/xtml email it is one less App because you don't have to open Preview.
