Sleep Wake Failure Experienced a Problem

Hi Everyone:

Recently I started experiencing a problem where my iMac apparently shuts down and restarts on it own. This seems to only happen when I am not using the computer after the energy saver engages.

I know it has shut down and restarted because I get a screen that reads:

SLEEP WAKE FAILURE experienced a problem

I have no anti-virus installed, although, in the past, I temporarily installed one, scanned my hard drive using it, deleted the (supposed) issues and then uninstalled the anti-virus app using the same app's uninstall icon.

I am using a iMac (21.5 inch, Mid 2010); Processor: 3.06 GHz Intel Core i3; Memory: 12 GB; Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 4670 256 MB. with mass Sierra; Version 10.12.2.

I have run sys diagnose, but the results this means nothing to me. I have run Malwarebytes (which found problems and were deleted) and First Aid from the Disk Utility (No problem found.)

I am very frustrated. Any ideas? Thanks

Hi BDAqua, I am facing the same issue with my iMac.

Currently running macOS High Sierra 10.13.1.

Energy Saver doesn't have the option for 'Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off'.

Any thoughts.

I have just started getting this problem on a MacBook Pro mid 2010. Just installed an upgrade to Sierra to version 10.12.6 , but also just installed an SSD. I thought it might be the SSD, but from the comments in this thread, I'm not so sure. Real pain to get unintended shutdowns and reboots.

Yes. I have been having the sleep wake failure ever since the upgrade. I have been having trouble with my Apple wireless keyboard and mouse for longer than that. The system doesn't seem to be able to recognize them quickly. It takes me a good 5-10 minutes to sign on and get my desktop loaded.

I suspect that you have other issues. Logitech issued an update to their wireless keyboard and mouse driver for Sierra users. In my case the mouse and / or keyboard locked up - and I had to reboot. Not related to the sleep/wake failure.

Hope you find a solution.

I don't use Logitech / Wireless yet have the same issue of wake up failure. When I force sleep the Laptop it faces the same problem, it goes into a dead state. Recently updated Os but the problem persists. Done all the NVRAM and SMC etc to No avail.

I think the keyboard / mouse issue is a red herring. (Except for Logitech Users who upgraded to Sierra). Suggest you hunt elsewhere.

I do wonder about the recent upgrade - and whether Apple is trying to overcome this little issue on the quiet. May work for some CPU/s but not for others...............?

Yeah, maybe a workaround (we'll see), but not a long-term solution to close out of all applications every time you put your Mac to sleep. Sort of defeats the point of sleep in the first place. Might as well shut down at that point.

Note that I still get the [failed] com.apple.CSConfigDotMacCert-[...]@me.com-SharedServices.Agent.plist (2012-01-16) - /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Frameworks/OSServices.framewo rk/Versions/A/Support/CSConfigDotMacCert: Executable not found!

How would I fix that executable without a full reinstall?

same problem with a late 2012 model.

So is this an OS issue? or a problem with my iMac? I'm curious because I can still return it if necessary

Same problem...Started after High Sierra upgrade; Late 2012 iMac running 10.13.2

Getting annoying as restarts are happening randomly; even late at night.

I've got the same problem on macbook air 2017, after installing high sierra. It restarts from time to time even though the computer is in sleep phase. Don't know what to do really
