What options do I have if the motherboard is damaged?

I have an iPhone 6, 64 G, silver

Recently, the phone will not hold a charge or very inconsistently holds a charge.

I took my phone to a repair shop and they told me it could be the charger port was dirty or damaged or the battery was dead.

However, after checking, they told me the motherboard was broken and said there was nothing to be done.

Is this really the truth?

Possibly. If this was not an Apple Authorized repair shop, then you only option is to deal with them for any repairs. Apple will not service any idevice hat has been opened and worked on by non-authorized service technicians.

Had you taken it to Apple or an Apple Authorized repair center, you might be eligible for an out of warranty replacement at least.

Maybe. Why would they lie?

Regardless, Apple will not fix your phone.

We don't know that to be the truth or not.

What kind of "repair shop" looked at the device? Was it an Apple Store or an authorized service provider? If they opened your device to come to the conclusion that the "motherboard is broken", Apple will now not provide service to that device. You'll need to possibly find another "repair shop" for a second opinion.
