how to stop iPhone from ringing through laptop

On the phone, Settings > Phone > Calls on Other Devices -- off.

Facetime preferences, in the Settings tab under the Add Email window. Uncheck the box for iPhone calls.

It also still exists in iPhone settings under Phone>Calls on Other Devices.

A few days after writing my post I realized my Mac was no longer ringing when my iPhone did. Wish I could share what exactly it was that did it. Perhaps a restart after trying something?

This option has disappeared from iOS iPhone 7.

Similarly, there is no option under preferences on faceTime on the Mac to disable this.

How do I shut this stuff up?

same for me. I disabled call on other devices. and disabled iphone calling on facetime. doesn't matter, my laptop still rings when someone calls my phone. and the stupid thing is my laptop still rings when I put my phone into silent mode (using the switch on the side of my phone). drives me nuts. imagine when you are in a very quite library and you did silent your phone but your laptop starts ringing like crazy. to make it worse, there's nothing you can do on your laptop to stop the ring. the laptop just rings without any UI element that lets you stop it.

All the help on this page was useless for me (Nov 7, 2017). I did all the things suggested on this page -- both on my iPhone and on my Mac, yet my Mac still rings during calls.
