hyperX cloud headset mic not working

I can't get the mic to be recognized on my HyperX Cloud headset using the line input on my early 2011 17" Mac Book Pro with Yosemite 10.10.5. The internal Mic works fine, as does USB headset mics. Any ideas how to fix this please?

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

Mic inputs on Macs are LINE-level inputs.

These require a pre-amplified microphone. A "raw" microphone input has a signal level far too low to be detected.
