Lightning connector black pins

Every couple of months I have to buy a new Lightning lead because poor connectivity causes the connector to arc. You can't see the arcing itself (it's inside the Lightning socket), but you can definitely see the carbon (blackening of connector pins) it leaves behind.

This has happened with my iPhone 6 for almost two years. It happened to my 5s before that. If it's going to happen to my iPhone 7s when I buy it... Well, I won't buy one. I'll go back to Android. It's almost upgrade time.

Is this issue fixed on the iPhone 7s?

Extra info:

  • I regularly clean the carbon off the pins. When it's really bad, I use Servisol contact cleaner. The plug is always dry and any residue wiped off before re-inserting.
  • I occasionally clean the contacts inside the phone with a piece of cardboard. Only occasionally because I am conscious of wear.
  • I regularly use an air blower to clean debris (pocket lint) from the Lightning socket.
  • I am a qualified electromechanical engineer.

Thanks in advance. I hope this gets fixed. It is clearly a design flaw.

Did you ever take any of these devices in to Apple and get them checked out?

Since the lightening connector was introduced I've used it with an iPhone 5, a 6 and now a 7 as well as an iPad Air 2 and an iPad Pro. Some of my lightening cables date back to that initial introduction of the port with the iphone 5. All my cables (I have many now, at least 8) have never experienced this sort of issue, even the original iPhone 5 cable which I still use.
