Discussion Community Mac: would you explain how to use the quotation " icon?

I have tried to understand how this is done, in the reply box: to be able to include

a quote from a reply in the thread that is discussing a question, in a box ("shell")

presentation. 😕

The reply box I am writing in now doesn't have the " (quotation mark icon) in it actually,

but some do; this one has a >> icon which indicates that it is for "insert" which sounds

like it might also be related to what I'd like to be able to do easily.

Is it possible to give what is no doubt a simply procedure, in simple detailed steps:

how to quote in a shell during a discussion thread.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

If you have

User uploaded file

Then clicking on the Quote icon marked in Red if NOTHING in the current Reply edit window is NOT highlighted, will insert the entire text from the post your are replying to into the edit window.

If, in the Reply, you have highlighted any text, then when you click on the Quote Icon (again as marked in Red above), then that text you highlighted in the Reply edit window will be quoted

If you have

User uploaded file

Then you get to highlight text in the Reply edit windows and then use the above indicated Quote to quote your highlighted text in the Reply edit window.

I must have fumbled fingered the grag and dropped the wrong screen shot, and then did not pay close attention before posting my reply. So first half of my reply should have been:

The 2nd half of my reply is good as it is for the Advanced Editor

Howdy Bob

Methinks that you are falling prey to a glitch in the TinyMCE editor regarding Drag & Drop that makes the images the same when done one at a time. If my guess is correct, you are likely in the Advanced Editor.

The solution is to use the camera tool insert image one at a time.

Drives me crazy too, since it doesn't happen every time.

Here I tried it with the advanced editing that has the popup panel next to >> and it also

worked.

The key that was missing was HIGHLIGHT IN MY REPLY WHATEVER I WANT TO SEE

APPEAR IN A 'SHELL QUOTE'.

In this case I used Safari>Edit>copy and pasted that same sentence from your

answer to my question and that worked too: again the key I was missing which you have clarified well, is to highlight the quote once it is in my reply and then indicate that

choice to the program by using >> side panel Quote (in the 'advanced edit' version for replying), or the " icon for a regular Reply.

Thank you, finally I think I've got it. 😎

I was most likely in the Advanced Reply Editor as I wanted a screen shot of that toolbar. Most of the time I use the regular Reply Editor, as I don't often need the advanced features. Or I do my edit in the regular, then at the last minute switch to the advanced to use colored text or use the Plain Text format for some code that needs to be fixed width.

Thanks for reassuring me, I'm not crazy and tried to do it right.
