how to get rid of "recently added" on iPhone after sync?

My "recently added" items mysteriously stay on my iphone even when i've sync with the selection of "sync only checked songs" manually.

They aren't in a playlist...there just there..somewhere.

Clicking Library i see them. If i click them, they will play from stream, but they don't populate in the downloaded music lists (other than my 'purchased' list... but that list has been removed purposely.)

Bottom line, when i want to listen to vocal jazz on my car bluetooth sync, i dont want my recent purchase of say, "Run DMC" to suddenly pop up.

When i tell the sync to have no music on the phone, i need no music to be accessible.

Is there some way to fix this ? It's become increasingly annoying... (especially during the holidays... playing holiday music, then suddenly frost the snowman turns in NWA in the middle of the holiday party!)

Thanks Sterling R!

Unfortunately, as mentioned, the songs on the iphone aren't actually in a playlist. Yes, they do show up as "recently added", but there is no list / folder in ITUNES edit it's rules.

If i click on my "jazz" playlist; the edit option becomes available.

If i click on my "purchased" playlist, the edit option becomes available

if i click on ANY of the playlists in itunes folder (even on my iPhone), the "edit" option becomes available.

if i were ABLE to click on a playlist titled 'RECENTLY ADDED', i believe it, too, would allow the "edit" option to become available. Unfortunately, there is NO PLAYLIST in itunes or iPhone entitled "recently added". (On the iphone (6s), There is a "section" underneath the playlists called "recently added"... you cannot edit that... it's just there all the time. This is what i'm trying to remove from my phone.)

The problem is when i reach the end of my loaded playlist, the music from the recently added begins to play...there's no way to stop it.. unless i turn my playlist on repeat. These songs are NOT on the phone actually. They dont take up any space. They are cloud storaged. This creates the 2nd problem.

The second half of this problem is when i sync my phone to my car, the car records my phone's music library as having 1600 songs : 350 from my "Jazz" playlist and the rest are those not actually on the phone.... and of course, it tries to play those songs...but they're not actually there ... so they crash the car's music sync. (If i leave the phone connected to cellular, then, it uses my data allocation to try to play those songs from the cloud - not a download, either...just access the cloud and plays them.)

The only way i can prevent them from crashing the car sync is putting the phone in airplane mode.... then, so much for hands free driving and navigation, right?

So, hopefully you can feel my pain 🙂

The link you provided does instruct me "how" to create a new smart playlist, but that i already know how to do, and not the option needed in this case. Let me say, i appreciate your reply and fine effort to help...sincerely.

Any further suggestion on how to get rid of that "recently added" section from my iphone is welcomed. (By the by, i have an iPAD 2... it syncs to the same computer and follows the same update schedule as my iphone...but it does NOT result in a "recently added" section showing up in my library at all.... go figure.)

Hello mikewinburn,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. The good news is the following steps will be helpful in resolving your issue, as the Recently Added playlist is a Smart Playlist. You will need to go in iTunes on your computer and edit the Recently Added playlist rules. Then sync your iPhone again to apply the changes made to the Smart Playlist in iTunes.
