Hey.I recently updated to 10.2 and everything seemed ok.After a few days battery started getting drained and according to my phone it's because of siri(68%!) even though I never turn her on.Any fixes?

@Verndog-08
here is what I found, searching for "Siri Audio" in these forums :

Found the fix! If you have turn Siri off turn it back on when you go to the audio selection or suggestions you will see that it is set to all ways on. I set mine on hands-free only, turned Siri off. Restarted the phone and battery usage went back to normal.

and in the same thread cinchona wrote:

I turned out that I managed to fix the problem by simply turning Siri on and the usage stat started indicating correctly. So if I don't use her at all when she is on (with Hey, Siri disabled), the battery usage percentage in settings will be 0%. At least those are the results I am getting from the last 3 days. Hope this gets fixed though, but at least it looks like there is a easy fix atm.

Did you update via Wi-Fi? If yes, try to set it back to factory settings, using iTunes on your computer. This way you can make sure that a complete firmware package is being installed onto your device. Test the battery life after that without using the latest backup at first. If back to normal, restore from the latest backup.

With a few rare exceptions Apple techs do not monitor here. You can report bugs here: https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html but you will not get a response. In your situation I would highly recommend you call AppleCare and if necessary ask for a second tier adviser and be willing to help if asked.

I would also appreciate it if you post back on what Siri Audio is. I always see just Siri in battery usage, never Siri Audio. Curious what the difference is.

I have had the exact same problem! Mine was up to 85% battery used while phone was mostly on standby over that period and very light use. Mine was draining battery by 10% per hour a short time after upgrading to 10.2 and phone was getting very warm while on standby.

What I did was turned Siri off, disables all the background refresh apps, and followed the additional power saving suggestions. After several days it all settled down, and now is nearly back to normal (but still drains a bit faster than 10.1.1 did). I never got the 30% shutoff bug, and my battery tests normal. This was on iphone 6 iOS 10.2.

And yes, I agree that even with Siri turned off it shows up in battery use, I think possibly voice dictation and other iOS commands may show up under Siri. Also what is weird is sometimes it says Siri audio, and other times it just says Siri.

Bottom line is, no there is no solution, try what you can and hope they find a solution by next update. There are MANY battery problems with 10.2, and I found only about 6 or 8 others that had the Siri heavy drain issue. The issues are many different apps causing high drain, and there is now some admission by Customer Care that there is a code problem with all iOS 10.0 they are trying to track down. Apple of course officially will not even acknowledge the problem.

You need to contact AppleCare directly and report this and let them check your iPhone. Be willing to cooperate as much as possible so Apple can learn as much as possible or they will not be able to track this down and come up with a fix. Don't be a complainer and part of the problem spend your time being part of the solution.

Does anyone have any further advice on this issue? My iPhone 6 (iOS 10.3.1) started doing this two days ago. Battery drain, "Siri audio" the main culprit. I turned Siri off (it was on, but not the raise to talk feature) and the battery drain continued. I use a program called BMSSM to look at activity and some "User" activity is taking up 50-80% of the CPU. Background refresh is off, I restarted using the "power key - home button" reset, no apps are even open in the background. Does anyone have any suggestions? Turning Siri on/off does not change anything.

My phone is out of warranty so I think calling Apple isn't an option.

Is there some malware installed on my phone?

Thanks,

Mace

I don't think it's malware. I think the iphone is mistakenly calling some process "SIRI". We might figure out what it is eventually. It could be an app, or it could be some attempt the phone is making to check for updates, or it could be one of the radios (BT, WIFI, or even mobile network antennae)...Apple doesn't seem to be able to produce a bug-free version of IOS.

Do you use dictation (voice-to text?) That's what was doing it for me. The phone seems to get stuck on that process, even hours after I am done using it. Shows up as SIRI in my battery stats.

Keep in mind, the battery stats show processes as a % of use in the last 24 hours. So "SIRI" might continue to show up for 24 hours after being used. The % might even go up, if SIRI doesn't use any more power for the rest of the day; Say "SIRI" used a chunk of power this morning, a medium amount of battery but a small chunk (10%) compared to what you did in the last 24 hours, because you used your phone a ton for Facebook and Netflix last night. Then for the next 20 hours you don't use your phone much. That same chunk that SIRI used this morning might actually look more like 50% by late tonight because for the rest of today nothing else used much battery. Hope that makes sense.

Hi,

I should have followed up. I had the problem for another day after I posted (constant 60% CPU, battery drain, Siri listed as main battery hog). I turned Siri on and off, reset with power button/home button, changed Siri settings etc. Nothing made any difference.

On a whim, I deleted my company's profile which was installed for email/calendar etc (AirWatch etc.). The CPU usage instantly went to normal (5-10%) without even restarting. I did not reinstall the AirWatch profile stuff for a couple of days and battery life was great. A couple of days ago I re-installed it and so far so good. I need to post to my company's help group for iOS and see what is up with the buggy iOS profile.

What I do not understand is why "Siri" was listed as the culprit in the battery usage area of the iOS settings. From my experience, it had nothing to do with Siri and everything to do with a runaway installed profile on my system.

Later,

Mace
