Use Maps to walk without using streets

I'm going to an event where there will be hundreds of buses parked in a large stadium parking lot, think disneyworld size. I'd like to use Maps to guide me back to my bus, but I can't figure out how to use it in "walk" mode without it trying to force me onto the closest streets, which generally results in a much longer route. So what I want to do is set a location for the bus, and then from any location up to 1/2 mile away, be able to have it walk me on a straight line to the bus, without forcing me to use any local streets. How do I do that? This would also be useful in the forest preserve, if I just wanted it to walk me straight home without being taken off onto the closest local street.

tnx

Open maps.

Zoom/position the map to show your current location and your saved point.

Tap the arrow at top right until you see the little line at top of it.

Your position will now have a fan in front This is your current direction.

Using turn by turn can only take you on paths (roads, walkways, trails, etc) designated in the maps app else it would guide you through buildings, swamps and the like.

That's what I tried to do, but I don't see any way to know what direction is directly toward the saved point. I have several handheld GPSs, they typically show a compass needle, or arrow, to show you which way to walk to a waypoint. But the only thing I can get the iphone to show me is what direction I go to a local street, which will then take me to the saved point. So if you imagine being lost in the woods, how would the iphone show you what direction to walk to go directly to the saved point?
