can the number of times the watch detects and records heart rate in changed, increased?

It is not possible to change how frequently Apple Watch measures your heart rate automatically.


Apple Watch measures your heart rate automatically in two ways:


  • Background readings, which are taken regularly throughout the day when you are still (a resting heart rate).

    The frequency of background readings cannot be changed and depends on your movement, potentially being taken as frequently as just 1-2 minutes apart.

  • Continuously during workouts, when recording them via the Workout app (or third-party fitness apps that support the feature).


Readings can also be taken manually at any time using the Heart Rate app. Apple Watch continues to take readings for as long as you are viewing the app. For quick access to the Heart Rate app, you may wish to:
