Install macOS Sierra.app is not in Applications folder

I'd love to make an external boot, but somehow do not have the Install macOS Sierra.app in my Applications folder. I’ve done all the usual troubleshooting, to no avail. It’s not hidden, I’ve re-downloaded, started in safe mode, etc. I need the install app in order to create my boot drive. Any ideas why I don’t have one? Every OS previous to this has had the install app in the Applications folder, but somehow Sierra doesn’t.

iMac with Retina 5K display, macOS Sierra (10.12.2)

Good question. Go to the Featured section of the App Store, where the full installer should appear. When you click the Download button, it may protest saying that it's already installed, but you should be able to bypass that.

Since it's already installed, you don't have to duplicate the installer. Just move to to another location (such as Documents).
