Apple Watch: How to silent all sounds except alarm while watch is on wrist?

Hello everyone,

I own a 1st gen Apple Watch with the newest watchOS and I'm curious if it's possible to mute all sounds, except alarm sound while the watch is on the wrist.

I know that there's a silent mode, which turns off all sounds except alarm and timers, but this only works when the watch is being charged.

Or I can turn on the sound, but then I get notification sounds, and I don't want that.

I also tried the "Push Notifications from iPhone" option, but this doesn't work either, because the alarm is going off the phone then.

All I want is, NO sounds on the watch whatsoever (I turned the sound volume completly down, but have silent mode not enabled), but still wear my watch around my wrist during night, so I wake up with a gently touch on my wrist.

But I want to beep, or ring the watch as well when the time to wakeup has come... Even if the watch is not being charged at this moment.

The reason why I want the sound is, because my wife has to wake up as well and she can't feel the touch obviously.

So, is this possible, or not?

Are there any other solutions for my problem?

Hi

To prevent calls and other alerts from making sounds on your Apple Watch, but to still receive audible alerts for alarms and timers, you can turn on Do Not Disturb:

On your watch: when viewing the time, swipe up on the watch face to open Control Centre > tap the Do Not Disturb button (crescent moon icon) to toggle the mode on and off.

Your Apple Watch and iPhone can be configured such that enabling Do Not Disturb mode on one device also automatically enables it on the other:

On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > General > Do Not Disturb - turn on / off Mirror iPhone, as desired.

When enabled, mirroring also applies to scheduled operation of the mode on your iPhone. To check for, edit or set a schedule (for example, nightly, during the hours when you normally sleep):

On your iPhone, go to Settings > Do Not Disturb - turn on / off Scheduled as desired, including setting preferred times.

Hi and thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately this is not exactly what I want, because turning DnD on stops ALL notifications on my watch (except from my favorite contacts), so the watch won't vibrate when there's a call, a new message or email or whatever.

I want the watch to give me haptic feedback about all incoming notifications, just no sound.

The only sound I want to hear from my watch is the alarm in the morning.

As mentioned before, I tried the following things, which do not do what I want:

- Sound on, Silent mode on -> No alarm sound when watch is on the wrist, just when beeing charged

- Sound on, Silent mode off -> Every notification gives a sound, and I don't want that

- Sound off, Silent mode off, Push notifications from phone on -> Alarm won't com from the watch, but from the phone.

- DnD on, Sound on -> Watch will not vibrate if there are new notifications

You see... I tried a few things but no option seems to do what I want, or du you know any other solution?

//edit: The only way I could accomplish the thing I want the way you mentioned would be, turning sound on at night, because then DnD is enabled as sheduled. And turn sound off again in the morning. But honestly, I don't want to do that every day...

Okay so today, the watch did give an alarm... very funny. Maybe it has to do with the phone's silent switch. Or maybe because I restarted the phone?

I'll keep an eye on it.
