Moving From Google Drive to iCloud Drive

I've been using Google Drive for awhile now and it's been great, but I decided to move over to iCloud Drive so I can keep everything in the Apple ecosystem. Moving everything over was relativley easy but I have some concerns with iCloud Drive that I'm hoping can be addressed before I pull the plug on my Google Drive:

1. When I update or upload a new file, it doesn't seem to be uploading to iCloud Drive. In my Finder, I get the little cloud icon next to the file. If I login at icloud.com, the new files are not there. This is happening with files I created a few days ago, still not there.

2. Is there any way to force a sync (upload new files or download new files) on all of my devices? It seems like you just have to wait?

3. Is there any way to get status? Google Drive would give you a nice toolbar icon that showed sync progress. All I see with iCloud Drive is the status wheel in my Finder which seems to be inaccurate or frozen most of the time.

I am currently using aMacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013) running Sierra 10.12.2, iPad Mini 2 and iPhone 6, both running iOS 10.2

Turning iCloud drive off and on can cause you to waste significant time and may not solve the problem anyway, please only do such things as a last resort, although 290 MB shouldn't be all that painful.

Try to locate which files iCloud drive is having trouble with, you should be able to do this by following the cloud icon trail.

then try removing them.

Force sync.

Try Settings/iCloud and slide off syncing. Wait a few minutes and then resync.

Try going to System Preferences/iCloud and stop syncing. Wait a couple of minutes, then recheck syncing.

Have you tried signing out of iCloud and then sign back in?

If I go to System Preferences/iCloud I don't see the option to stop syncing? I haven't tried signing out / signing back in. That seems like a pretty archaic solution, especially if I would need to do it every time I upload a new file? I can give it a try and see if it works.

I'm still waiting for files from 1/12/17 to upload. It's taking 5 days (and counting) to upload a 60KB word document. That's definitely not as fast as I would like.

If I uncheck the box for iCloud Drive it goes into the whole dog and pony show of either deleting or backing up everything that's on my drive - same as if I would log out / log back in. Is this the easiest way to do it?

The iCloud Drive is just about 50GB total, which is exactly why I don't want to delete and resync. As you just said, a waste of time.

I can absolutely track down each file as you showed. Just remove them into a non-iCloud folder and move them back in?

I'm not sure if this helps at all, but this is pretty much what my iCloud Drive has looked like for the past 5 or so days. It almost looks like it's stuck on something?
