My MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2.53GHz, Mid 2009) El Capitan w/3 yr old battery shuts off within minutes when I disconnect the charger. No warning what so ever. Battery charges full, stays full off charge but then percentage drops to 0 and computer is off. Bad battery? or just happens to be something from the last security update (since it started then)?
Tried that. I've never seen a battery do this (and i'm old đ) but there's always a first. A fully charged battery at 100% or 98% charged just goes to no charge after a few minutes (up to 10). I just didn't want to buy another battery to find out it's something else.
Leaving lithium batteries on charge for protracted periods is bad for them, leaving them on charge permanently very bad. It may be time to replace the battery regardless of charge cycles.
How many cycles does your battery have? From your description I would say the battery needs replacing.

yeah I do leave it plugged in more then I should. I would think not holding a charge would be a sign but this holds a charge then dead.
As you have already replaced the battery can I ask if it is an Apple Battery or a 3rd party?
