I cannot print Word docs (MS Office for Mac 2008) on my new Brother MFC-J6520DW despite trying just about everything suggested by Apple and Brother. If I turn documents into PDF files then they print out ok. M Buckley

I use OS 10.7.5 on an iMac and I cannot print MS Office for Mac 2008 on my new Brother MFC-J6520DW despite trying just about everything suggested by Apple and Brother.

If I turn documents or photos into PDF files then they print out ok.

Brother says if PDFs print, then its not their problem and I have to contact Apple so I have looked at all the Apple advice I can find and reinstalled the printer but still not solved the problem.

Or Brother say I have to contact Microsoft so I have also consulted their website. I see from this my Office 2008 for Mac is outdated. Is the problem that their drivers are no longer supported by Office 2008. Surely the Brother drivers supplied on the disk that came with the printer should have a driver that works. The printer is sold as supporting OS10.7

Has anyone else had similar problems? And found out what the problem is.

Thanks

I NEVER install from the supplied disc. Either use the printer pane or go to their website to install the latest printer software. Also if that fails and you have it connected by a usb cable then try another cable. I had a situation once with a Brother printer where my cousin was using a third party usb cable and that printer would not print. I supplied another cable and it printed.

Thanks Smokerz. I checked with Brother website and installed driver from there and changed the printer cable as you suggested but neither has made any difference! However I have found that I can print a Word Office for Mac 2008 document by clicking on and highlighting the file whilst in the Finder, then moving pointer to the File menu and clicking on Print. The document immediately starts printing out. So it seems as if there must be something amiss with the MS Office for Word since I cannot print out when in Word. If this deduction is correct, then I presumably don't have to worry that the problem lies with Brother or with Apple but with Office for Mac 2008 software?
