Why double click for unlocking?

Before the latest OS Update from 10.1.x to 10.2.x I was able to slide the message (text, facebook, whatever) once to show the number pad to type in my passcode to unlock my phone. But now with 10.2.x why is there now a need to have a double click to even get to the number pad to enter the passcode to unlock the iphone?

Even if I just want to unlock the phone without sliding a message of some sort, I slide the iphone screen then it takes me to the edit " to add widgets " button but yet no number pad to enter my phone. I still have to press the home button twice.

If I press the home button twice then the number pad appears and I can unlock the phone.

But why? Why did we have to make it so cumbersome to unlock my/our iphones? I normally use the thumbprint to unlock but sometimes, some cases have a film over that area to keep it waterproof for instance and sometimes the thumbprint doesn't work.

I have the need to keep my iPhone locked so I don't want to have to remove that option, Isn't there anything I can do to make it work how it did vs needing the double press of home button or press home button after sliding just to unlock the iPhone??

iPhone 6, iOS 10.2

Why? Because Apple changed it. Beyond that, no one here would know. It probably has something to do with the fact that people have been complaining about slide to unlock for years.

You can submit feedback to Apple here:

There is one setting change that may help, at least when you're using TouchID. Settings>General>Accessibility>Home Button>Rest Finger to Open>On

I don't seem to have to double tap but, it could be because I've changed that setting.

Best of luck.

If you use the fingerprint recognition, there is no need to double click. Click the home button once and leave your finger there for a fraction of a second, and the screen unlocks.

You only need double click if you use only a passcode and need to get to the passcode entry screen.

The change was an Apple internal decision, so nobody here can provide any answer as to "why".
