HDR icon - how to get rid of in Photos App

Some of my photos taken with my iPhone 6 Plus show an HDR in the upper right corner when viewing the photos in Photos on my Mac.

I have latest builds of everything.

How do I get rid of the HDR rectangular box in the upper right corner of those photos?

Tip: turn off HDR photo duplicates to save space - iDownloadBlog

I would not shoot HDR with the option "Keep normal photo" turned off.

This advice can be risky, if the subject in the photo is moving. We can miss great shots this way. If we keep the normal photo, we can select, if we keep the HDR or the normal JPEG and have a fall-back option, if the HDR version is corrupted.

Here is one of the worst HDR photos I took: The poor bear has shifted eyes and a badly ruffled fur coat because of the HDR composition of three successive shots:

Thanks. I am not sure where this setting would be

You change this when taking photos directly in the Camera.app, not in the Settings.

The HDR button in the Camera.app has several different states, see this page in the iPhone User Guide - it describes how to use the HDR mode:

I have set my camera to HDR automatic. Then it is on, when it is most useful.

(And not sure why the other 7 taken with the same phone don't show the HDR icon.)

If HDR is set to automatic, the iPhone will take HDR photos if this mode is useful and the lighting situation is sufficient to take HDR photos.

If you have not been taking HDR photos intentionally, disable this. HDR can give you stunning results, with lots of detail in the shadows and highlights, but if the scene contains fast moving objects, HDR mode can cause bad motion artefacts and motion blur.
