iCloud email set up Kindle Fire

I am having a problem trying to configure my iCloud email to work on my 2016 Kindle Fire. I successfully set it up when I first purchased the Kindle several months ago. IMAP and port settings all look correct. The problem began when I agreed to establish "2 Step Verification" for my iCloud account. My email immediately quit working and now says "cannot connect to email server" when I try to set it back up. I realize that this might be a question for Amazon but I thought I see if anyone had any ideas first. Thanks

2 Step Verification is Apple's 'older' verification system. It does not require an Apple device, as it can be used with any SMS capable device. It is ideal for app specific password use as some users still use iCloud services but have no Apple device.

Major caveat!!! Do not lose the recovery key that forms part of this process. If you lose your password AND this recovery key together, you are locked out of your Apple ID forever. There is no possible way to reset the password in this scenario.

I am sure I am not the only one whose time is being wasted in large amounts every day by the 2 FACTOR authoriZation that Apple clearly did not consider carefully enough to prevent major problems for people who have one dead iphone, or have only one device but it is not with them etc etc. Even if I can find my device i have to put in my password and my secret code sent to the same phone literally 15 times per day even on my stupid fancy iPhone x. (send secret code to the same phone? not at ALL a clever OR SECURE option if you ask me...but I am just a mathematician).

So I want to use my colour email address on my kindle Nd now I go have to get, oh glorious day! An App Specific Password! But I do not have two factor authoriZation and do not want to and please stop eating my time and tell me how to get my mail on kindle? Sorry to sound cranky but I am!

The answer to your question is you 'must' use an app specific password which requires either Apple's 2 Step Verification or 2 Factor Authentication.

This is not subject to debate.

It is a requirement for accessing iCloud data from any 3rd party app, as used on your Kindle.

It's actually as secure as your device is. The assumption is you have a strong and hard to guess passcode preventing unauthorized access to your device. With this, nobody can access your Apple data without having physical control of your un-locked, as in passcode lock, iOS device.

When adding this trusted device to your Apple account, you proved to Apple the device was in your control. As long as it is, it's a secure and logical place to send you verification codes.
