Changing email for Apple ID affects purchased apps and music?

I have been using an old email address for purchasing music and iOS apps for about 15 years. That email address is about to go away, so I was looking through the comment posts about changing the Apple ID. The ones from about four years ago say that changing the Apple ID would cause all the past purchases to be lost. Is this true now? I don't want to repurchase all the music and apps that I have bought in the last 15 years. I read the Apple page about how to change the email address for the Apple ID on all the devices and accounts including iTunes, but it does not explain about whether the music and apps will be transferred over to the new Apple ID. I can see on all my music files that the old Apple ID is encoded into the files.

Thanks for the info! It does seem that my music files and apps still appear on the purchased lists after changing the email address for my Apple ID. This is a big help. When I check the file info in iTunes, it still shows the file as "purchased by" my original Apple ID address, but I guess that does not matter.

What a bummer they don't allow us to change our Apple ID email to the @icloud.com or @me.com addresses. This means that I still have to keep a different Apple ID in iTunes and App Store from the rest of my Apple uses.
