My iPhone 5 running on ios 10.2.. it doesnt hold to 2g network at all .. all though it work great in 3g & 4g.

i have tried every possible solution mention under Apple forum, but no help .. it just display "No Service" when i select 2g network manually

In Mumbai, India.. 2g network still hold significant presence , hence switching between 2g/3g happen automatically

There is a fair indication the 2G service is no longer being supported by

the main corporations whose business is cellular communication... In

some markets this may or may not say AT&T as the service provider.

See the link below to read about AT&T's actions from their source:

"To help support the massive growth of mobile internet usage and free up spectrum for

newer technologies, we discontinued service on our 2G wireless networks Jan. 1, 2017."

• 2G Sunset Brings Faster Speeds, Newer Technologies ~ AT&T:

http://about.att.com/innovationblog/2g_sunset

"We announced our plan to shut down the 2G network 4 years ago. Prior to the shutdown,

we communicated frequently with our customers about upgrading to newer technologies."

So this is more likely the reason for your 2G service to no longer be supported.

Perhaps you may have other options for higher band services in your region.

Good luck & happy trails! 🙂

OK. I see what you mean after doing a search of cellular services of India

and the 2G still being dominant for the next three to five years. Several

companies say they're going to drop 2G by 2020; others probably not.

The iPhone 5 (& later) would seek to use higher than 2G when available

by default and does not have manual control to choose the 2G network.

Not sure if there is another means to control this factor; and depending

on the kind of SIM card or if the iPhone had been jailbroken, results vary.

Sorry to not offer you any new information as it applies to your iPhone 5

and its lack of connection to the 2G network in your locality.

Good luck in this matter! 🙂

Does anyone in this world has similar issue with your iphone 5 .. if Yes, than please remarks about the loophole in i5.. what is the solution to solve this problem?

is there anyone from Apple developer team came across this problem ? can you please share your thoughts ? or give us a concrete solution for "No Serivce" issue on 2g network for i5.

its really frustrating to use Iphone which keeps on loosing network and Shows "No Serivce" more often (felt like i have made biggest mistake by upgrading to i5)
