Warped screen?

I just got a new 80GB black iPod. I noticed something which may or may not be a problem - If you look at your reflection while the screen is off, or hold it nearly sideways, you'll notice the screen sort of warped. However, the video coming out of it is fine, so it seems like maybe it's just on the outside "layer" (you'll also notice there are two reflections, probably from the front and back of the screen). Really, it's so minor you can only see it by looking for it.
But, should I be worried? I don't want this to break in a few months when I can't replace it.

Yes what you are experiencing is normal on just about all electronics with an LCD Display/Screen. It is called the rainbow/newton ring. And it is caused by the reflection of light on the screen, especially when holding the screen at an extreme angle (like you described).

Here: this link will explain it better: http://www.answers.com/topic/newton-s-rings

I originally marked your reply helpful, but I will change it to answered, as upon further review I think that's what it is. I noticed you can see those along the edges of the screen like arcs going from corner to corner.

The reason I was doubtful at first was that it's too much of a sudden "pinch" in the reflection, but not colored rings per se. However, I think maybe this is a special circumstance of them, where the point of contact or whatever is just the right size/angle that it's making a more noticeable center and instead of a ring a more gradual color change to the sides.

Maybe I just discovered a "newton line" 🙂

Thanks!
