iPhone 6s Plus unexpected shutdown issue

Hello.

I’m a customer from Beijing, China. I bought an iPhone 6s Plus in September 2015, but recently it seems that there’s something wrong with my iPhone. The phone would suddenly shutdown when I was outdoors, even if I had just charged it to 100%. I searched the Internet for the cause and the solution, and found out that the battery has something to do with this accidentally-shutdown issue. When the temperature is low, the battery’s voltage could not reach its minimum value to run properly, which leads to a sudden shutdown. I also found out that Apple has announced a battery replacement project, which means any customer whose iPhone 6s (manufactured between September and October 2015) has got the same problem could get his iPhone repaired even if it is out of warranty.

Unfortunately, I’m an iPhone 6s Plus user who has suffered from this shutdown issue. I checked my Serial Number and it turns out that the phone is, indeed, manufactured in September 2015. I checked the Diagnostic & Usage Data as instructed and confirmed that the problem occurs because of low battery voltage. I asked a staff member in the local Apple Store for help, but what he told me is that since my phone’s warranty has expired and the replacement project is exclusive for 6s users, I cannot have my iPhone repaired without charge. I am very disappointed.

You may say, there is no doubt that the problem only occurs on 6s devices. You may say that the problem is none of Apple’s fault but mine instead. You may say that iPhone is designed to shut off automatically during extreme weather. However, Beijing is not North Pole, the temperature isn’t that cold. What else, many customers both in China and other countries (including the United States) have reported the same problem. I’m absolutely sure to tell you that the problem has something to do with Apple itself. It has something to do with the manufacturing part.

I would like to have my phone repaired for free. Not because I’m only a 16-year-old middle school student without any income, neither am I making trouble out of nothing. What I wanna say is that a company should never let things like this happen. Apple is not a company which simply ignores its flaws and refuses to take action. It never was, and never will be.

I could not get my problem fixed in China, so I wrote this letter in English, in the hope that the same unexpected shutdown issue with iPhone 6s Plus could be taken more seriously. Please email back if there’s anything new about the problem.

Sincerely

iPhone 6s Plus, iOS 10.2, Serial Number: F2LQDHVYGRX2

Here is the link for the repair program to which you are referring: https://www.apple.com/support/iphone6s-unexpectedshutdown/

Select your country from the drop down menu and check your device's eligibility by entering the serial number. If your iPhone 6s is one of the devices impacted by the battery issue, you can schedule your battery replacement service directly from the webpage.

Then, your iPhone's battery does not suffer from the same issue as the iPhone 6s. The reason there is a program in effect is because Apple has admitted to a known defect in a limited number of iPhone 6s batteries.

If your battery has been tested by Apple and not is performing as expected, the power cycles have been consumed; therefore, the battery should be replaced under the normal service guidelines.
