My TOP SITES frequently disappear even though I consistently pin them for retention. Is there a way to prevent this?

How to reset a home page , open safari & its preferences > click on general . type top sites in new windows open with & same in new tabs open with , then click on set to current page .

An article : Safari for Mac: Set your homepage in Safari

As you are preferring top sites and in my screen shot I use homepage .

User uploaded file

An how to enter in user library :

Take cursor on top menu bar click on go , just scroll down then again click on go to folder .

User uploaded file

And type ~/Library in the pop - up window .Then click on go .

User uploaded file

Another method to enter user library :

Click on finder > Hold option key & don't release it , click on go in top menu bar , library will be seen in the same column ( just below computer ) .So click on library - you will enter in user library .

Make sure to enter in user library only finder must be open & close all applications by pressing command + Tab + Q .

Might be a corrupt .plist.

Do a backup, preferably 2 backups on 2 separate drives.

Quit the application.

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Safari/TopSites.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.

Restart the computer, open the application, and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.

If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.

Much as I appreciate your response and acknowledge the possibility it will solve my problem, it is too technical for me.[I have no idea what a .plist is]. I do wonder, what is the likelihood that I have a "corrupt" p.list? My computer is only a couple of months old. I have access to AppleCare and am thinking they will walk me through the process if they agree that your idea deserves to be pursued. Thanks again.

Open safari > safari preferences > general > new window opens with & new tabs opens with should be set as top sites & click on set to current page is the easiest method but still if it is not resetting , click on go to go folder & type ~/Library find a folder Safari > right click on Topsites.plist & move to trash .

Restart the computer & empty the trash , also contents of cookies , saved application , caches folders can be removed into the trash.

Tygb; I followed your instructions to the point of assuring that the settings are as recommended and your message implies that by following this "easiest method" there will be a "resetting". I got no resetting and beyond that specific word in your narrative could not proceed because I did not know how to access the "go" folder. I read you to mean that with the words "click on go to go folder" you intend that as an alternative fix method instead of the earlier narrative. Might you try me one more time?
