Dock freezes when deleting file from downloads folder

Hello everyone!

I have a MacBook Pro 13" from late 2016 with touch bar. Recently I have been experiences problems when removing a file from the downloads folder in the dock. When I open the downloads folder by click on it in the dock and when dragging a file to the trash can everyone works fine. But directly after the dock freezes. Which means the just removed file still shows on the dock (for example, a picture). And when I click the downloads folder in the dock it won't open, but just sit there. I have also noticed that other apps don't show notifications in the dock when this happens. The only way to solve this is to restart my Mac or to log off and on.

How can I prevent this problem from happening?

Removing downloads might be easier to do from a Finder Window:

You can either drag and drop to the Trash or you can use File>Move to Trash. I don't really know why your method isn't working, but at least here I don't encounter any problems with the Dock freezing when I remove a download.

THIS PROBLEM IS DRIVING ME INSANE!!!! I have the same issue I just came on here to here if anyone has figured out what is causing the issue and how to resolve it. I too just bought the new MacBook Pro with TouchBar. The only way to fix I found is by restarting my computer. This has been happening since day one of getting my new MacBook Pro. I attached pictures of my computer with this issue. Also when it happens it usually starts with the download folder and then my application folder and trash.

This does indeed work, but it is often much easier to just drag it from the dock to the trash. It has never been a problem on my previous MacBook's and it used to be no problem on this one either. So I appreciate the work-around, but I'll still be hoping for a solution for this.

I don't have Evernote on mine from what I've read this could be an issue with the video drivers and how they switch from one video card to the other. The new macOs beta apparently has all new updated video drivers. Let's hope they release it soon.

Your problem seems to be a different from my problem. When I remove an item from the downloads folder in the dock it gets removed, but the image stays visible in the downloads icon. And I can't click the downloads folder anymore, it won't open. The whole dock starts to malfunction at that point.

Apple released 10.12.3 yesterday. So far I haven't had any issues!!!!! Let me know how you guys make out.

Same problem here. The dock also freezes when moving files from the desktop folder too.

Moving them in Finder works but is only a workaround until this bug is fixed.

Have you installed any other software that might affect your MacBook? I have recently installed Evernote. Just wondering if you have too.

I have Evernote installed, but I am not sure if that is causing the problem. The problem only started recently, or it is an update of Evernote?

It seems like the update did indeed solve the problem! I'm a little bit wary for the problem to resurface, but for now I'll mark this as the solution!
