Hard-drive

Is there a way,I could install App Store apps directly on an external hard-drive? I would like to do this with Xcode ,as it says that I don't have enough space on my Mac's drive, and I wouldn't was to move all my stuff on the external one and then back again. Basically I would want to use my external hard-drive as the main storage target for only that app,when installing Thank you in advance!
