Maximizing windows does not work properly when menu bar is hidden

What is your setting for Double-click a window's title bar setting under System Preferences>Dock?

I have mine set to zoom, and when I double click, it takes up the spot where the menu bar used to be. I was using Safari & Messages for testing purposes. But, like dialabrain says, not all apps behave exactly alike.

FWIW, Firefox doesn't strictly follow Apple guidelines. And my Firefox never has a window title bar just like Chrome and Safari.

I followed your steps to reproduce the error you're having and everything seems to be working as it should. Maximizing a window causes it to go full screen, as expected.

The green button is meant to expand a window full screen, which it does. If you autohide the menu bar, you'll notice that when you drag a window to the top of the screen, it'll pause for a moment where it would normally meet the menu bar. This is normal behaviour. You can continue to drag to the top of the screen if you like.

Not totally sure if this at all helps you, but I hope it does!

FWIW, not all apps maximize the same way. Is there one in particular or a few where you see this?

I should say the only time you will see a window title bar is when Firefox is in full screen and you mouse up to the top of the screen.

I would say it certainly sounds like it 😎
