Can I run Logic Remote on my Macbook Air? I dont have an ipad

I have a small home studio, 2 x Rokit KRK 5 monitor speakers, my beautiful Roland A33 via MIDI to a MOTU Audio Express, in turn via firewire to a mid-2011 27.5 inch iMac (2.7GHz Intel core i5, 16G Memory, 1T SSD), and alongside it my Macbook Air (2015, 13 inch screen, 1.6 GHz Intel Core i5,1600 MHz DDR3). I also have an iphone 6, but as yet no ipad (went for the Macbook Air instead). Is it possible to run Logic Remote from the Macbook Air? And if so how? Also linking these two Macs is sometimes a bit hit and miss. What would be the most effective way of connecting them? Thunderbolt cable? I'm using Caldigit TS2 for 2 external hard drives and the ethernet cable, as it dramatically increases my internet connection speed, but there is one other Thundebolt port free on the imac, and of course of the Macbook Air. Many thanks in advance for any feedback...

iMac, macOS Sierra (10.12.2)
