disk1: I/O error

I recently learned that a file in my hard drive is corrupt. So I cannot get on my mac. So i booted up my mac in Single User mode, and am now trying to copy my important files onto a mounted USB drive. But whenever I use the copy command, it gives me this error:

CoreStorageGroup::completeIQRequest - error 0xe00002ca detected for LVG "Untitled" (BF676143-2E07-4C6F-A4BA-DFB51211CB69) pv DAAEFA11-8642-4B71-833E-6014EA62AD97, near LV byte offset = 2479513600 disk1: I/O error.

Can somebody help me with this?

Remove and replace the drive. Get an external enclosure for the removed drive that you can connect to the computer. Then you might see about transferring your data. You may need file recovery software:

General File Recovery

If you stop using the disk it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as MAC Data Recovery, Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on a bootable CD to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the disk. Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and Cisdem DataRecovery. Recovery software usually provides a trial version that enables you to see if the software would help before actually paying for it. Beyond this or if the drive has completely failed, then you would need to send the drive to a recovery service such as Drive Savers which is very expensive. The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on Data Recovery.

An I/O error reported about the drive typically means the drive is damaged or has failed.

Is this the mid-2012 13" MacBook Pro? If so, there is a known issue with the hard drive cable going bad over time, which will also lead to corruption of the hard drive. You definitely will want to replace the hard drive as Kappy recommends, but if you do have this model, you will probably want to replace the cable as well. Replacement cables and step-by-step instructions are available from PowerBook Medic and ifixit.

Good luck!
