Does My Mac Have Malware?
Hey Everyone!
I've noticed several times my Mac has redirected me to several websites. Almost about two times so far. And one time a pop up randomly appeared.
When I got redirected to the site - I saw no signs of it being redirected. It just loaded the page like normal. I went back through my search history and saw that I specifically typed in the URL address of the site I was trying to visit, and made sure I typed it in exactly. I just don't know how I got redirected to that site, unless it was malware.
I doubt that this will be much of help, but I'd also like to note that I have seen a pop up for an ad at least once on my Mac. But I think that happened after visiting a website.
- I have ran a scan on my device using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and the first time it did detect something and did remove it.
- I have checked to see if my system is up to date, which it is.
- I have restarted my machine.
- I have my firewall turned on.
- I have scanned my machine with Sophos Home antivirus as well.
I have noticed my Mac has been a little sluggish, but I think that's mainly because of me upgrading my system to
macOS Sierra. The performance hasn't decreased that much though, just a little. To also note - I have used the CPU Monitor application to see if I could recognize any malicious programs, but I didn't see any unless I missed them.
I know some people say that you shouldn't use anti-malware applications as you don't need it, but I'd rather play it safe which is why I had them installed in the first place.
I'm not going to say that I'm an advanced user, but I did attempt to take an IT course so I do have some technical knowledge though I never did get my certification. Nor am I trying to boast, but I just wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts, or suggestions about this despite having this training. As I am a bit paranoid haha.
Thanks!
🙂
